Early this morning we got up, packed our backpacks full of food and water, and headed out towards the Franz Joseph Glacier (with glacier pronounced “glassiyar” for dramatic effect). After having breakfast at Joe’s Garage, we spent the afternoon with a drive to the coast. A few tense hours on winding roads were rewarded with spectacular views of the ocean and plans to visit the nearby glacier the next day.
